Only use adverbs to give stark contrasts or switch a verbs meaning. Example: She smiled sadly looking over her shoulder at the city she was leaving behind. You &lt;strike&gt;normally&lt;/strike&gt; associate smile=happy.

Not: The accident completely severed the boys arm.
Instead: The accident severed the boys arm.</description>
